Current Season
In our second season, Geopolis Theater Company is looking at Germanic works. Specifically, plays from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The works that we have chosen are mostly modern stories that play with the idea of fate. Sometimes fate is a terrible force that can’t be stopped, other times, fate is something that is fought against only to bring great joy when it strikes. Fate can be a small, seemingly coincidental event that tears asunder life as it once was, or a slow working poison that torments and mocks. Like the threads of fate, these stories all have their origins far in the past; Fairy Tales. We chose stories that can be linked back to the famous fairy tales that come from traditional Germanic storytelling. Magic, monsters, love, morals; these are just some of the themes that permeate fairy tales of old, and that thrive in the plays of our second season. This season, we embrace and explore our craft as storytellers, and to show how some of the most famous and well-known stories of all are still very much a part of the lives and imagination of the people in German speaking countries. We hope to show that, like all good stories, fairy tales are relevant to all people, regardless of time and country.
